The Course Objectives
-
The creation of a survival orientated, African Long Distance mindset that will carry the rider beyond their natural abilities and through unexpected difficulties
-
To teach, not to show.
-
To gradually move from easy to difficult with each skill.
-
To always build on a rider's comfort zone moving them gradually from introduction to mastery.
-
This course results in a riding style that preserves the mechanical condition of the motorcycle.
-
Successful completion of an exercise is a result of the rider’s ability and not through the excellent handling qualities of the motorcycle or the traction offered by the tyres
-
To ride in an environmentally responsible manner.
-
Riders, once they have completed the course, should report that it was easy, structured and relaxed – despite the fact that their riding skills improve dramatically.

To be
able to "read" a dirt road thus ensuring your safety and
enabling you to preserve the mechanical condition
of your heavily loaded, dual purpose motorcycle. |
|
 |
|
A fast moving, on-coming vehicle
could encroach onto your side of the road. Its
possible presence is hidden by the trees on the
right. |
|
 |
|
This blind corner in deep shadow
could hide anything from a stationary vehicle to a
herd of cows. |
|
 |
|
The sharp right hand turn is
covered in loose stones making a quick turn
difficult. Loosing momentum is a problem as traction
is limited by the loose stones, therefore a slow
turn is equally problematic. Your choice of tyres
will make a difference here. |

 |
|
A hidden sill of rock cuts across
this track. The line on the left has a drop of 40cm
which difficult to see. The line on the right has a large
protruding rock. |
